Children and Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care for my child? Why, his/her back doesn’t bother him.

A spinal checkup could be one of the most important checkups your child will ever have. The spine is the lifeline of the body because running through it is the spinal cord, a cable-like structure that contains billions of nerve fibers that send messages and energy to every part of the body. Childhood is a very “physical” time for us all. Jumping, running, falls and accidents are all part of a normal childhood. Yet they can cause spinal misalignments and nerve damage- with serious consequences.

The First Subluxation and Neo-natal Damage

Vertebral subluxations (also called spinal nerve stress) have many causes. To start with babies their head is very large and heavy in comparison to it’s body. Special care must be taken during the birth process otherwise injuries to the spine can be caused such as the pulling or twisting motion caused by forceps.

Whiplash Shake Syndrome

Contemporary medical professionals recognize “whiplash shaken syndrome” which can cause brain damage, blindness, paralysis, or convulsions. It’s a cause of post-natal brain damage that most doctors still don’t recognize, however. The condition was recognized by chiropractors nearly a century ago!

Children’s Research

A study which compared the child patients of 200 pediatricians with 200 children under chiropractic care, showed that the health of the children was notably superior to that of children under standard medical care. The chiropractic children, for example, had fewer ear infections, allergies, cases of tonsillitis, and needed less antibiotics and other medication.

Spinal Check-ups Are Vital

If your child is suffering from these common conditions, it’s essential to have them checked for vertebral subluxations:

  • Poor posture or neckaches
  • Croup or Bronchitis
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Loss of hearing
  • Arm, hand, shoulder, leg, hip or foot pain
  • Poor coordination
  • Hypertension or Numbness
  • Backaches or headaches
  • Scoliosis
  • Painful joints
  • Frequent colds, ear infections or sinus problems

Warning Signs

It is recommended that children have periodic spinal check-ups however there are certain warning signs indicating that the spinal column may be out of alignment:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • A hip or shoulder higher than the other
  • Shoulder blades flared out
  • Neck tilt
  • One leg shorter than the other
  • Foot turned in or out
  • Joint aches
  • Noisy Bones

Without spinal health, true health is impossible to attain. More and more families are finding periodic spinal check-ups for children are as beneficial as regular check-ups. Your child’s hearing, vision, and teeth are checked periodically – why not include chiropractic spinal checkups?
